Website – Read What You Love Until You Love to Read

Like I mentioned in a previous post, I’ve never been a great reader. I struggle to sit down and read even though I fully appreciate how beneficial it could be. For as a long as I can remember, one of my New Year’s resolutions has been ‘Read more’ and every year I feel I have failed.

I only recently realised that I’ve always tried to quantify ‘reading’ by how many books I’ve read. Then it hit me, ‘What if I’m more of a short story or article-kind of person rather than a book-person?’ What if I’d be happy simply just knowing that I was reading more, whatever it was, and that the practice was becoming somewhat engrained.

I think reading shorter form pieces allows me to delve into a wider variety of topics and interests which makes it more appealing to me. I’m also able to focus which helps with my attention span and I can grapple with the main idea/s in the text more quickly and easily. It allows me to take more time, to re read, to let the information sink in, to highlight, underline and / or make notes.

I notice that up to now there are no books covered on this website, just articles from newspapers and magazines, podcasts…

A good friend shared something Naval Rivikant tweeted which is very apt:

“Read what you love until you love to read”

Here’s an article of him expanding on that which I think is spot on. It’s interesting that towards the end he touches on the desire to learn and how children have a natural curiosity but education / schools replace that with compliance. I have a feeling someone else I admire talked about that too.
