Diego Maradona passed away just over 5 years ago on the 25th November 2020 at the age of 60. I remember seeing an interview with Pep Guardiola at the time where he spoke of his sadness and paid tribute to the Argentine legend saying he had helped ‘make football better’.
“There was a banner in Argentina one year ago that I read, that said: ‘No matter what you have done with your life Diego, what matters is what you have done for our lives.’ He gave a lot of joy and he made football better.”
For all the things he did wrong in his life, of which there were many, argentinians and fans all around the world forgave him everything. It reminded me of a few of the quotes I’ve posted on here before, such as this one.
