BBC Radio 4 – Today

Some days ago I heard a mind-boggling statistic on the radio in relation to Elon Musk’s new net worth following the IPO of SpaceX. When they asked Matt Parker, a mathematician and stand-up comedian, how big a number is a trillion dollars and to put it into perspective, he said:

“We could try and imagine a trillion dollars using the size of a $100 dollar US bill. If you were to stack up a trillion dollars, its over a thousand times taller than the Burj Khalifa. But what does that really mean in terms of money? Well if you wanted to earn a trillion dollars in just your normal 9 to 5, 45-year career doing 40-hour work weeks, you would have to earn just over 10 million dollars an hour.”
